What's new at Camp in 2008?

Even after 27 wonderful years of operation at Camp at the Woods, we’re not content with resting on our laurels, and we want our campers to come out with something new and fresh every year. That’s why we’re now offering a variety of new programs, activities and themes to inspire creativity, fitness and fun in the 2008 camp season!

For those in our Adventure camps—and specialty camps as well—we’ve added original daily themes like Water World, International Festival, Survivor, Summer Olympics, and Adventures in Nature. Along with these new themes, campers will also discover a variety of new activities designed to build both mind and body. Following is a brief description of each:

  • Surf's Up: Games and activities throughout the day have one thing in common—water! From swimming, canoeing and water balloon volleyball to a variety of water games with the Sugar Creek Fire Department, kids are sure to end their day tired, wet and happy!
  • International Festival: Everything throughout the day will have an international flair! A variety of ethnic foods (in addition to some of the kids’ favorites), international sports and games, and international arts and crafts will be introduced throughout the day. But the culminating event is decidedly American as its name “American Idol” suggests!
  • Survivor: Like the popular reality show—without the plotting and conniving—campers engage in a variety of original outdoor activities, team events, obstacle courses, scavenger hunts and more!
  • Mystery at the Woods:  Scooby and the Gang need your help, as various items—and other prominent camp personnel—start disappearing.  So now it’s up to our fearless counselors and their detectives-in-training (the campers) to look for clues and solve the mystery!
  • Summer Olympics: Our 2008 summer camp programs wouldn’t be complete without a tribute to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. From Olympic-inspired creative activities to athletic events, campers will experience our own Olympics, complete with medals and prizes for participation!
  • Adventures in Nature: From Wildlife Encounters (a program sponsored by the Dobbs Park Nature Center) to exploring the natural environment of our beautiful wooded campus, this day is a dedicated celebration of nature and all it has to offer.

At Camp at the Woods, all of our programs are designed to build both body and mind, and we offer a variety of healthy choices for our campers (regarding food and activities). Rest assured, however, that we also value choice and tradition, so many of your favorite foods and activities will also be available.
